Folk Extravaganza-2nd annual

Event Description

Its our 2nd Annual Folk Extravaganza!
Join us for:

Makem and Spain:
Every generation has a few acts that define where a musical genre is going, performers so confident in their chosen field that they are able to completely embrace the genre and yet introduce something new to it. In Irish folk music today, that act is Makem and Spain.

Tom Paxton
Tom Paxton has become a voice of his generation, addressing issues of injustice and inhumanity, laying bare the absurdities of modern culture and celebrating the tenderest bonds of family, friends, and community. “Tom’s songs have a way of sneaking up on you. You find yourself humming them, whistling them, and singing a verse to a friend. Like the songs of Woody Guthrie, they’re becoming part of America.” …Pete Seeger

Tristan Omand:
Tristan Omand's hard-learned brand of songwriting is brimming with stories of offbeat characters, road-worn personal experience, and a healthy dose of subtle humor to even things out. His acoustic guitar style sets a sparse backdrop to distinctly American songs and stories, and his approach to lyricism owes as much to John Steinbeck as to John Prine. Newest album, The Lesser-Known Tristan Omand available now.

Schooner Fare:
Schooner Fare has won unanimous critical praise for captivating harmonies and winning stage presence. In addition to their numerous original songs on both contemporary and traditional themes, the band also writes and performs topical songs, country ballads and maritime masterpieces that have made their name synonymous with the "Down East" style.
Consummate entertainers, their energetic concerts are laced with a Maine brand of universal humor. Combining their talents on six-string guitars, twelve-string guitars and banjos, Schooner Fare's distinctive vocal and instrumental arrangements have been hailed by such folk music icons as the Kingston Trio, the Limeliters, the Chad Mitchell Trio, the Clancy Brothers, Tommy Makem and Tom Paxton.

Dave Mallett
The cool breezes of Maine’s northlands have flowed through the songs of David Mallett for more than four decades. His latest, Greenin Up, is a compilation of some re-recordings of his finest work. Released in conjunction with the Maine Farmland Trust, it is a celebration of rural life.
“Dave Mallett harks back to the earnest ambitions and heartfelt melodies of Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, singing with the conviction that folk can still be heroic. He has a lustrous, melancholy voice that both engages and lulls the listener, never stretching too high or too low but always staying comfortable and believable.” - The New York Times Synd.
